Let’s Get Cheeky: Swim Miami 2015 Trend Report

Swim Week is my favorite week of the year because it’s Miami’s official Fashion Week and it kick-starts the next wave of Fashion Weeks around the world. It’s also the time of the year Miami fashionistas “window shop” for next year’s summer uniforms because, as we all know, Miami girls and guys spend most of their weekends in swim gear.

If you were following Brickellista on SnapChat you watched live from the front row as I selected my new duds. I spoke to several designers and got the scoop on the trends and what buyers will be craving next season. So what are some of the hottest trends we will see hit the stores soon?

Active wear + Swim Collide

Brands like We Are Handsome, Lululemon, and Stone Cold Fox have created a line of active wear that is interchangeable from the gym, to paddle boarding, to sun bathing. Their fabrics wick away the moisture yet are huggy enough that you can downward facing dog… without showing all your huggies. Even the swim queen herself, Mara Hoffman, created a colorful array of active wear perfect even for those who never see the gym!

Music Festival Hippies Dive into Swim

In my talks with several brands it became apparent that the gypsetter style is hitting the runway for swim. Making this category of clothing more relevant and transitional than ever. Maaji Swimwear brought music festival chic to the runway with their Rhapsody Road show. Luli Fama Swim also got in the festival mode with their Dream Catcher show bringing fringe and itty bitty bottoms to the table. So what makes this category unique? Bold colors, fringe, and musical elements ala guitar straps for bikini straps!

Cheeky Bikinis

These bikini lines turn up the heat anywhere you go, but unlike the active wear, I do not suggest anything too active aside from turning heads. This swim season ACACIA, MOHINI Swim, and Hot as Hell had the runway steaming with hottie models in itty bitty bottoms and no one was complaining! Oh and if you need your #MCM to pay attention to this swimwear post… send him to this section.

Darks + Neon

Ah yes, you guessed it…my favorite time – neons!! Swimwear in Miami is not complete without a dash of neon, and my favorite looks combined classic colors with hyped up brights. And these neons had the audience buzzing just like John Mayer….

Colorful Coverups

Swim Miami 2015 proved that there is nothing wrong with leaving a trail of color behind you. And before you head to the Breakers, make sure you pack a colorful cover up that will radiate against the loads of Lily. Check out the gorgeous coverups from Gottex and Robb & Lulu.

Unexpectedly Hot – High Waist

The mom jeans of swim wear is surprisingly sexy! Swim designers toyed with the various heights ranging from the just below the belly button to woah dude this is almost a one-piece! Tori Praver did the high waist best with sexy cut outs and flattering curves.

A designer commented that festival season should have its own fashion season because swimwear is becoming the uniform for festival goers. My take: this season it has become more apparent that swimwear is transitioning to the new street wear. Whether its beach side, at Coahcella, or simply pairing a bustier top with jeans, swimwear is all over… and  I am all in favor for it… after all, it’s like 100 degrees out!

PS: you might be wondering why I didn’t mention Mara Hoffman… Welp, stay tuned Monday for her new collection including active wear. And make sure you get bikini ready with Exhale’s Summer Splash Slimdown program!
