How to Wear Leopard to a Work Conference

How to Wear Leopard to a Work Conference

This month I was invited to speak at the United Way World Wide Summit in New Orleans. It was truly an honor to share the stage with fellow philanthropists and discuss ways to engage young professionals and millennials. As most of you know, I am pretty involved in Miami and love to give back to the community whenever I can. When the United Way of Miami-Dade called with an invitation to speak at their worldwide summit – I jumped all over it.

I was a ball of nerves before the event and of course the inevitable question kept lingering – WHAT TO WEAR?! Luckily my friend Romina from Tom James came to the rescue.  The beauty of Tom James is that they create custom suits so every piece is designed just for you. Romina helped me create the perfect look for my panel discussion. She knew I was really nervous and stepped in to help calm me down… and drink some wine while we planned my outfit.

A custom Tom James blue mohair skirt suit was the basic start to this look. The suit was professional yet trendy, which is important when you are in marketing. Keeping my individuality is important to me (and millennials) so a stuffy look wouldn’t suffice. Rolled up sleeves and bold jewelry is a staple in my work attire, so this event would be no different.

The Blouse

Romina suggested I keep the look fresh and bold with a Press. sheer leopard print blouse to offset the blue mohair suit. You can find a similar blouse here.

The Accessories

Accessories are important to any look! Keep the look chic and effortless with classics like pearls and gold to make sure you make a statement without looking too flashy.

We completed the look with a chunky necklace and bangles from Alex & Ani. The shoes had to be comfortable so I went with a classic pair of  Tan Peep Toe Pumps.

Evening Look

The look transitioned easily to the evening. I kept the blouse and threw on my favorite pair of J Brand denim. Dark blue skinny jeans should be a staple in any travel wardrobe – they easily transition from day to night.  jbrand

 The Coat

New Orleans has chilly nights and in true Miami girl form, I wanted to bundle up because I rarely get to use my favorite winter gear. I swapped the blazer for a wool coat. Mine is an oldie from Banana Republic but here is my dream Burberry Wool Coat. Isn’t it a dream?

Evening Shoes

I finished the look with my favorite Jimmy Choo suede pumps you can find a similar patent pair here. They are a lower heel and give jeans a more professional feel.

Skin Saver

Since this was a quick overnight trip – the packing wasn’t too cumbersome. I always have my First Aid Beauty”Fab Faves To Go Kit” ready to go for a last minute trip.

This trio does wonders for repairing post flight skin – the dry air from the plane always kills my skin.

Hi Alexis – round toe pumps would also work great with this outfit! Glad you like the blue mohair suit – it is such a beautiful cobalt blue it looks so sleek and unique.

Love this post please post more like this. Other blogs focus more on party outfits and casual looks. My least favorite thing to do in the morning is get dressed for work. These inspiration posts are helpful and your professional style is elegant. I’m an attorney and it is often difficult to find feminine and professional outfit ideas online. Most of my current wardrobe is from JCrew and I am so tired of wearing the same outfits time and time again. Does Tom James have storefronts? I cant find anything about a physical store online. Please advise. Thank you.

Hi Jaqueline – Tom James does not have store fronts. The great thing about this company is that they come directly to your home or work. So it’s perfect for busy professionals like yourself 🙂

      Glad you liked the post!

Blue mohair is spot on. I appreciate that you posted an evening transition outfit. Often when I travel for work, I am left with the same grudging feeling of nothing to wear. The evening outfits are the hardest to plan for because you never know if you should err on more conservative choices or plan on something more casual. Your option is a nice balance of both. I wish the press shirt was still available. I love that blouse. I will be honest I am not a fan of the Barney’s shoe choice. Peep toe pumps are my least favorite shoe. This look would be better suited with a round toe pump.
